Dry split pea/Channa Masala

Ingredients,

  • split dal/channa dal    200 gm
  • onion 1 medium
  • tomato   2
  • ginger garlic chopped   1 tbsp
  • yogurt  100 gm
  • oil  1/4  cup
  • salt 1 tsp
  • red chili powder     1/4 tsp
  • coriander powder   1 tbsp
  • cumin powder  1 tsp
  • turmeric powder  1/2 tsp
  • garam masala powder  1/2 tsp
  • black pepper powder  1/4 tsp
  • lemon juice  2 tsp
  • whole cumin seeds  1 tsp
  • whole red chili  3-4
  • butter  1 tbsp

Directions,

1.soak split pea/channa dal for 2-3 hours.now boil water in a pan.add split pea/channa dal.boil it until tender.tender means just soft because you are not making dal soup....:)

2.drain it. set aside.

3.heat oil in a pan.add chopped onion.cook it until golden brown.

4.now add ginger garlic paste,2 peeled tomatoes stir well.

5.now add yogurt,salt,red chili powder,coriander powder,turmeric powder,mix well.

6. stir it until you will see oil on side of pan.

6.now add dal mix well,sprinkle garam masala powder,black pepper powder, green chilies,lemon juice.and with lid on cook it for 10 minutes on very slow heat.

7.now for tarka heat 1 tbsp butter in a frying pan.

9.add cumin seeds and whole red chilies.cook for 15 seconds or until you smell the aroma of cumin seeds and dry red chilies.and remember  not to cook it more than 15-20 seconds or you will start sneezing because of dry chilies.... put it on cooked dal. serve.
