Tarka urad dal

A simple but yummy recipe for making Tarka Urad Dal; its in our every day lunches and dinners also very healthy. Do try and give your feed backs.

Ingredients,

List 1

  • Urad lentil  2 cups
  • Tomatoes  2 big
  • Green chili  1
  • Salt  1 tsp or as required
  • Red chili powder   1/2 tsp
  • Turmeric powder  1/2 tsp
  • Curry leaves   10-12
  • Clarified butter (ghee)   2 tbsp
  • Lemon juice   2 tbsp

List 2,

  • Big cardamom  1
  • Cinnamon stick   1 very small piece
  • Cloves  4-5
  • Black cumin   1 tsp
  • Whole coriander   2 tsp

List 3,

  • Oil  4-5 tbsp

  • Onion  1

  • Fresh ginger  1 inch piece

  • Dry red chili  1

Directions,

1. Soak urad dal in water for 1 hour.

2. Grind all list 2 ingredients.

3. Grind tomatoes from list 2. Set a side.

4. In a pan add clarified butter.
Tarka urad dal
5. Now add ginger galic paste, turmeric powder, red chili powder, curry leaves, and grinned spices we made from list 2.
Stir it for few seconds.

6. Add tomatoes and stir it on high heat.

7. Stir it until you see oil with sides of pan.

8. Now add soaked urad dal.

9. Add 2 cups water. Let it boil then with lid on cook it until tender.

10. Its ready.

11. Now from list 3, for tarka add oil in a pan; brown onions in it; then add chopped ginger and dry red chili ; cook few seconds then pour over the cooked lentil.

Tarka Urad Dal is ready, serve it with white boil rice and fresh salad with a generous squeeze of lemon on it.
